The shopping, the crowds, the traffic, the expense, the family drama can all put you into a not so festive mood this season if you let it. Why do we do the same things, with the same people that produce the same stress year after year? Sometimes it’s tradition, it’s the way we’ve always done it.
Every holiday was the same in my family. We spent too much money, ate too much food, drank to much alcohol and then the fighting began. Sure my mom was upset when I decided to take my kids skiing instead and too not eat her heavy Holiday meal, but she got over it when there was no fighting. She had time for her.
It’s great to love your family, but putting everyone else’ s needs before your own is overwhelming.
If you don’t get all the shopping done, try a new tradition. Shopping after Christmas can be just as much fun and will save you money. After Christmas sales are even better. Have everyone meet at the mall and give everyone a wrapped gift card and let them go.
Our store does more business between Christmas and New Years than it does all year. There’s a great idea, take them to Sedona.
Allow for things to go wrong. or at least different. Focus on what went well. Realize that everyone gets to live their own movie. Just because they do it different than you doesn’t make it wrong for them. Genuinely find something you really like about that person. Tell them what it is and if you have something that is really bothering you, ask Santa Clause to help you look at it differently. We can only change ourselves and our opinions.
Listen to your body. It knows when you being too hard on it. Take time to feel what is really making you happy. You deserve to be happy. Don’t substitute alcohol for water. Every time you take a drink of alcohol, remember to take a drink of water.
Lastly, remember this too will pass. It’s only one day and a New Year is just around the corner. Happy Holidays Beautiful People.
