What is an amulet?

amulet, jewleryWell its a symbol with inferred magical qualities…..similar to a talisman. Amulets have been used for personal benefit since the dawn of time. Many came from ancient, mysterious Egypt and followed humankind all through history. The majestic Romans had many gold and gemstone amulets , Industrial Europe followed suit and Modern America  brought them into a  less mystical reality.

If you study the influence, you will be surprised by how many changes they have brought to the world.  Some religions have placed them on a special pedestal and idealized their unquestionable positive effects. However they really help people achieve positive results because the carry important magical symbols and invocations that extend the human ability. They activate awareness to help us perform better both physically and spiritually  in this world. The advantages and improvements that they brought into the material world are obvious and have been recorded in human history for centuries.

Most are intended to bring good luck, some sort of protection, and gifts from the spirit realms. Some can be used for darker reasons and should be avoided as to not invoke Karma to ones self. Jews, Christians, Muslims believe in their protective healing powers.  I can’t think of any religion or belief that doesn’t use some sort of amulet for power. As  a child, being brought up in the Catholic faith, I remember wearing scapulars under my clothing for protection and a gold cross around my neck. When I forgot to put them on, I felt very vulnerable.

Nowadays, I have various amulets that I would leave home without. One of which is an Evil Eye that’s used for protection in my car.

Just notice the number of people who wear astrological pendents, Ankhs, St. Christopher Medals, and a variety of others. A funeral director said many people request to be buried with their amulets. All around the world the number of people wearing amulets is increasing. Amulets were originally natural items such as an animal tooth or a precious gemstone. Crystals and gemstones have been used for thousand of years to increase power and protect. In fact it is believed that people started wearing talisman jewelry before they started wearing clothes. During the Crusades, soldiers carried bloodstone carved with a runic message, hoping it would make them brave and protect them from harm.

The best way to choose your amulet is to define your goal and then pick the one that appeals to you. Whether you like the color, shape, texture or size, you will be drawn to the one best suited for you., Once you have chosen it, it must be charged to fill it with power and energy. It is an important magical tool and needs to be dedicated to your specific goals. The best time to charge it is on the waxing moon. There are many different ways to do this. Putting it on your altar is one. Saying specific prayers or hymns is another.

If it is financial success you intend, you must believe it will work. If you are skeptical there is no point in wearing it because your subconscious mind will override the power of the amulet. instead of working toward your goal. Positive intent, conscious belief   is all you really need to make your amulet work for you.

What is Yoga?

yogaEveryone has heard the word yoga, but how many of us know what it really is. Oh I know , its some kind of exercise. Well yes and no. To understand Yoga we have to know its history, so that we can understand it and hopefully incorporate it into our lives.

Although archaeological evidence goes back to 3000 B. C. with yoga figures appearing in stone seals, scholars have traced its existence back to the Stone Age, It started out as a community oriented activity and then turned into individual practice.

If we go back to the Vedas sacred scripture and the basis for modern day Hinduism, we find the oldest known recorded teachings called Vedic Yoga. These teachings are characterized by rituals and ceremonies designed to help the individual surpass the limitations of the mind. Vedic people relied on Yogis to help them live in divine harmony. Yogis were also gifted with the ability to see beyond reality through their intense spiritual practice and give helpful advice and insights.

Yoga shares some characteristics not only with Hinduism, but also with Buddhism. Buddha taught the importance of meditation and the practice of physical postures. Siddharta Gautama, the first Buddhist to study Yoga, achieved enlightenment at the age of thirty five.

Later around 500 B.C. , the Bhagavad Gita was created and is the oldest known Yoga Scripture. The Gita says that, to be alive means to be active and in order to avoid difficulties in our lives our actions have to be benign and have to exceed our egos. The belief is that the body is a temple, and the Yogis attempted to use Yoga techniques to change the body and make it immortal.

Yoga was introduced to the West during the early 19th century. It was first studied as a Eastern Philosophy and began as a movement for health and Vegetarianism around the 1930’s. By the 1960’s there was an influx of Indian teachers who expounded on Yoga. Among them was Maharishi Mahesh who popularized Transcendental Meditation. Another was Swami Satchitananda who introduced chanting and Yoga to Woodstock. Yoga Bhajan started teaching Kundalini Yoga in the 70’s. Up to this day, Yoga has taken on many styles and variations and continues to proliferate and spread its teachings across the boundaries of cultures .

What are Tibetan bowls?

tibetan bowlsMany cultures and religions revere sound so deeply as to believe it called the universe into being. For the Hindus, all was dark and quiet in the universe until the first movement in the universe created the sound “Aum.” It is the mother tone, containing the frequencies of all other sounds.

Everything that moves vibrates, from the smallest molecule to the universe itself. As long as it is vibrating, it is making some kind of sound. We may not perceive the sound, as it may be below or above the threshold of our hearing. However, sounds are also recognized by skin and bone conduction; thus, the entire body may be considered a hearing device. Scientific studies show that sound can produce changes in the autonomic, immune, and endocrine systems. Every atom, molecule, cell, gland and organ of the human body absorbs and emits sound. The entire body, as well as our brain waves in a relaxed state, vibrates at a fundamental frequency of about 8 cycles per second, literally attuning us to the basic electromagnetic field of the earth itself.

As the universe is composed of spinning wheels of energy, we too, at the inner core, spin seven wheel like energy centers called Chakras. They are measurable patterns of electromagnetic activity, centers for the reception, assimilation and transmission of life energies. Each Chakra reflects essential aspects of consciousness, forming the master programs that govern our lives, loves, learning and illumination. Chakras can be open, closed or any of the various stages in between. These states may be basic aspects of someone’s personality throughout most of their life, or something that changes from moment to moment, in response to a situation. An ailing Chakra maybe unable to change its state easily, being “stuck ” in either an open or a closed state. If this is the state, the Chakra needs healing, by uncovering and removing whatever is blocking it. The seven major Chakras are all inseparably interrelated. A block in the functioning of one Chakra may affect the activity of the one above or below it causing the body to be operating in a state of disharmony.

Our bodies are genetically pre-programmed to be self-healing instruments. Certain sounds heal by assisting the body to come into its natural state of balance and harmony. When an organ or body part is healthy, it creates a natural resonant frequency in harmony with the rest of the body. Each of the energy centers is associated with a specific tone of the C major musical scale from “C” of the Root Chakra, progressing upward to the 7th or Crown Chakra and the corresponding 7th note of the scale, “B.”

When the vibration of a part of the body is out of harmony, we have dis-ease. With dis-ease, a different sound pattern is established in the affected part of the body. The sound pattern is not a pure tone. When the correct pitch is projected into the dis-eased area, correct harmonic patterns are restored. This is sound healing.

There are many methods of healing with sound. Mantras and chants have been used for thousands of years considering that the human voice is a most powerful musical instrument. Other instruments are also used to effect changes in the body by breaking up these blockages. An instrument vibrating in concert with one of the notes of the scale, can cause the associated Chakra to open. Crystal bowls particularly, are of great use in sound healing. They are composed almost exclusively of silicon quartz to which the body has a natural affinity. Our bodies and those substances which compose the brain are crystalline in structure. Even on a molecular level, our cells contain silica, which balances our electro-magnetic energies. This is the same formula as natural quartz crystal. Quartz crystal sound or music, holds the vibration which acts directly on our Chakras’ physical centers. In addition, it has the power to bring about a positive shift in our consciousness. As our awareness expands, we grow close to our original selves and start to reflect the highest radiance in our physical form. Through these crystal healing sounds, one can re-pattern the energy field organization that ultimately affects the cellular expression of disease or wellness.

The power of thought is the means by which we create our reality. Nothing can be created if it has not first been thought. Crystal amplifies the thought programmed within. Thus it can be used to bring out a special quality or feeling in people and simultaneously release and replace thought forms that are not of the highest radiance for the listener. The crystal bowl’s sound “heals” our thoughts so that we can heal our physical selves. At the same time, the sounds emitted work directly on bodily imbalances in order to rid the body of dis-ease and restore a healthy state of being.

Here at the Center, we have a full line of Crystal Bowls tuned to each of the 7 Chakras, Tibetan Bowls, tingshas from Nepal and many Music CD’s to help you in “BALANCING” your being and chakras for an ultimate health and well-being experience.

What is Ear Coning?

ear coningAn Age Old Therapy

Ear Coning can be understood as an ancient healing modality that was used by many cultures –Egyptian, Greek, Chinese, Aztec, Mayan, Tibetan – to cleanse the spiritual and physical body. It was originally used in conjunction with initiation practices for spiritual leaders in order to strengthen their positions as bearers of great truths and as beacons of light in the darkness.

It has also been a traditional practice with many Native American tribes for clearing the ears, the sinuses and the psyche, but Ear Coning disappeared from general usage until New Age alternative medicine practitioners rediscovered it in the last twenty years.

The technique, also known as candling, safely removes debris such as flaky skin, bacteria, parasites, small amount of wax and environmental contaminants from the ear canal. It is used today as a gentle way to stimulate the body’s circulation to the ear and upper lymph system which brings about the body’s natural healing abilities. The herbal smoke from the candling may also positively affect the sinus cavities offering a cleansing type action. The burning candle itself can warm excess ear wax in the ear canal, making it easier for the body to eliminate on its own. Tiny reflex areas just inside the opening of the ear canal are physically stimulated by the gentle pressure of the cone. Stimulating these points positively affects corresponding parts of the body and may be especially beneficial to the sinus and head area. The healing smoke has long been used to ease ear aches and “fumigate’ possible fungus and bacterial growths inside the ears.

This old therapeutic art was most probably developed with the domestication of the honeybee. Beeswax was –and still is –a key component to making the hollow cylinders used in the procedure. Today, as in times past, high quality ear candles are handmade from beeswax and unbleached cotton cloths. These specially fabricated candles are typically nine to twelve inches long and will burn for approximately ten minutes. Through a process called convection, softer waxes and toxins will be drawn out of the ear, oxidized and turned into vapors during the procedure.

There is, of course, another aspect to ear coning. Metaphysically, ear coning works to clear negative energies from the auric field and to correct the obstructed natural flow of energy. As a result, many individuals have vivid dreams or emotional release after an ear coning experience.

There are numerous paths to healing. Whether you choose ear coning or another modality, the end result will be the same. When you are ready to move to the next level, the correct method for your healing will be placed in front of you. Perhaps this ancient method will be the right approach for you.
