Winter Solstice

This year winter solstice will happen on Thursday, December 21 in the Northern Hemisphere. This solstice marks the first day of winter, the shortest day of the year. Sometimes referred to as the darkest day of the year. What happens during winter solstice winter solstice? At this time, the earth is tilted furthest away from the sun causing temperatures in the northern hemisphere to start to drop. Temperatures won’t pick up until the earth starts tilting back towards the sun towards the sun after the spring solstice.

Part of the earth is cooling and as this gradual cooling process continues over the next two months, temperatures will continue to fall, in the coldest temperatures will be recorded.

There is a theory that Stonehenge was constructed to celebrate the winter solstice. Experts acknowledge that the design appears to correspond with the use of the solstice and possibly other solar and lunar astronomical events in some fashion.

A colorful cast of pagans, druids, and people from all walks of life typically join together to celebrate the winter solstice at Stonehenge.
There are rituals of rebirth performed throughout the day. This is one of the biggest celebrations in the UK. The crowds of Devotee’s are often very colorfully dressed for the occasion. Singing, dancing, and music are all part of the celebration.

The importance of this day comes from how people were previously so economically dependent on the seasons with starvation common in the first months of winter. After the solstice the days will start to get longer. The process is very gradual with minutes add every day and till the spring solstice.

As you can probably imagine, Sedona is one of the best places to celebrate winter solstice. The Chamber of Commerce has a list of events and festivities.

What is the Om symbol mean?

Most religions indicate that creation began with sound. Ancient teachings and modern science agree: all living things, all things in existence are made up at their most essential level of vibrating, pulsing energy.

For Hindus and Buddhists, Om (Aum) is this primordial sound, the first breath of creation, the vibration that ensures existence. Om signifies God, Creation and the One-ness of all creation. Om is not a word but rather an intonation. The three Sanskrit letters when combined together, make the sound Aum or Om.

A stands for Creation
U stands for Preservation
M stands for Destruction or dissolution

It is a mantra or prayer in itself. If repeated with the correct intonation, it can resonate throughout the body so that the sound penetrates to the center of one’s being, the atman or soul.

In the Sanskrit tradition, this sound is called the “Unstruck Sound.” This means “the sound that is not made by two things striking together.” The point of this particular distinction is that all ordinary audible sounds are made by at least two elements: bow and string; drum and stick; two vocal cords, two lips against the mouthpiece of the trumpet; the double reed of the oboe; waves against the shore; wind against the leaves. All sounds within our range of hearing are created by things visible or invisible, striking each other or vibrating together, creating pulsing waves of air molecules which our ears and brain interpret as sound.

Sound that is not made of two things striking together is the sound of primal energy, the sound of the universe itself. And the ancients say that the audible sound which most resembles this unstruck sound is the syllable OM. Tradition has it that this ancient mantra is composed of four elements: the first three are vocal sounds – A, U, and M. The fourth sound, unheard, is the silence that begins and ends the audible sound, the silence which surrounds it.

Although Om symbolizes the most profound concepts of Hindu belief, it is in use daily. Hindus begin their day or any work or a journey by uttering Om. A newly born child is ushered into the world with this holy sign. After birth, the child is ritually cleansed and the sacred syllable Om is written on its tongue with honey. Thus right at the time of birth the syllable Om is initiated into the life of a Hindu and ever remains with him as the symbol of piety.

During meditation, when we chant Om, we create within ourselves a vibration that attunes sympathy with the cosmic vibration and we start thinking universally. The momentary silence between each chant becomes palpable. Mind moves between the opposites of sound and silence until, at last, it ceases the sound. In the silence, the single thought—Om—is quenched; there is no thought. This is the state of trance, where the mind and the intellect are transcended as the individual self merges with the Infinite Self in the pious moment of realization. It is a moment when the petty worldly affairs are lost in the desire for the universal. Such is the immeasurable power of the mystical symbol, Om.

Try this.
Stand comfortably, feet shoulder width apart, hands and arms hanging easily at your side. Prepare to make the “AUM” sound, all three vowels in one seamless breath. Inhale gently, easily, expanding into your belly as you breathe. Open you mouth fully as you inhale, as if to “inhale” the “A” sound itself, creating the intention of the sound before the sound actually begins.

Then, as you begin to make the “A” sound, raise your arms out to the side, as if opening to embrace all the universe. Then as your voice transitions seamlessly to the “U” sound, extend your arms to the front, as if to hold something precious and powerful in your hands. You might wish to visualize some shape, round and energetic, manifesting between the palms of your hands. Then, gliding from “U” to the “M” sound, bring your hands and whatever they may contain, to your heart center. Finally, in the echo of the silence, bring your palms to your chest, pressing them lovingly to your heart. Breathe gently.

This is a remarkable centering and relaxing exercise.

Vogel Crystals

“The crystal is a neutral object whose inner structure exhibits a state of perfection and balance. When a crystal is cut to the proper form and when the human mind enters into relationship with its structural perfection, the crystal emits a vibration that extends and amplifies the power of the user’s mind. Like a laser, it radiates energy in a coherent, highly concentrated form, and this energy may be transmitted into objects or people at will.” Marcel Vogel

Marcel Vogel was an IBM research scientist for 27 years during which time he did pioneering work with quartz crystals. He discovered that quartz has the capacity to store, amplify and transfer information, but does not adequately “cohere” the energies emitted by the body and mind of an individual.

It was Marcel’s idea to facet the quartz crystal with which he was working, and thereby created a distinctive crystal that is now known as the Vogel-cut crystal. The Vogel-cut crystal is an instrument that serves to store, amplify, convert and “cohere” subtle energies in order to magnify their power exponentially for healing purposes.

A Vogel crystal can amplify and cohere the thought and energy that you wish to direct into your body/mind or that of another person. Amplification is easy for us to understand, but coherence may be a somewhat difficult concept. Think of a laser. If you take ordinary light and make it coherent, what you end up with is a laser beam, light that is incredibly concentrated and focused. Thus, a Vogel crystal adds to our intent the power of a laser beam.

It was Marcel Vogel’s finding that a crystal must be faceted not only with geometrical precision along the growth axis, but must also be worked with the right attitude, outlook, understanding, and consciousness. It is not simply a matter of mechanically cutting the same general shape; shaping of the crystal in a “sacred manner” is of major importance in arriving at the characteristics found in Vogel crystals.

The structural change in cutting quartz into the shape identified as Vogel-cut is to tune it to be a coherent information transfer device. The form geometry of such a crystal creates a field of energy that can act as a carrier wave of information, whereas raw quartz does not.

  • Take a slow, deep breath as you focus on the crystal with the intent to clear it
  • Then, pulse out your breath, in a burst through the nostrils.

Putting love and well-being into your Vogel crystal will charge it:

  • Breathe in the love and well-being
  • Hold your breath and focus and concentrate this feeling
  • Pulse your breath out, this time mentally directing the love and well-being into the crystal

If you have done this correctly and with loving intent, you can hold your breath and you will feel your body resonate with the crystal, and it will vibrate in your hand. Once it has been cleansed and charged, you can mentally put into the crystal whatever else it is you want to work with accepting that the foundation is “love.” Love is an absolute requirement; will is not enough.

Because the Vogel Crystal holds whatever pattern you put into it, and then broadcasts that pattern wherever you want it to go, you can heal the functioning of the body and psyche and demonstrate to all the magical, mystical properties contained within Vogel Crystals.

Marcel Vogel (1917-1991)
Marcel Vogel absolutely proved, using scientific, double blind experiments in his laboratory, that the power, the matrix, the whole web of all that is consists of love.

“Love is the glue of the universe. All healing is a consequence of loving.”

Vogels now come in a variety of styles and crystals-not just quartz-and are often coupled with other gemstones. The Magician Stone brings good luck; Flower of Life features a 12 pointed star that provides the wearer with the energetic experience of being held in a soft protective field of loving energies; Angelic Star empowers us to become our higher selves.

Money Frogs

The Money Frog – also called Three Legged Toad or Frog – has become the holy creature of Feng Shui, protecting against misfortune and promising abundance in wealth.

Chinese legends tell that the Money Frog was originally the wife of a legendary figure who stole the Elixir of Immortality from the Goddess of the West. The naturally greedy wife was punished for her act by the other deities of the heaven who transformed her into a three-legged frog and sent her to stay in the moon.

Traditionally, the Money Frog is depicted holding a Chinese coin in its mouth and sitting on lots of gold ingots, coins and wealth. It can be placed in many places to multiply wealth and build prosperity. For businessmen who want success, the Money Frog is a must to be placed at cash registrars, shop reception, treasurer’s desk and safe, and any part of the business premise that deals with money and customers.

In the home, the money frog is kept in the corner diagonally across from the entrance to a room. The corner of a room is known to be the focal point where Qi, or positive energy gathers. To invite more wealth, luck, additional sources of income and career growth that eventually leads to more income, set several Money Frogs randomly in your living room or garden. Feng Shui Masters believe the froggies go out in the afternoon to collect money and return at night with lots of money sticking on their feet so they should be treated like frogs and not deities.

Deities are placed on a higher level as a measure of respect, but Money Frogs should be placed on the floor or at low levels, under chairs, tables and sofas or any other isolated places. If they are placed too high, they might be afraid to jump down and go out to look for money. And they should face inward, never outward as you want wealth to come in, not go out of your house.

Do not place money frogs in bedrooms, kitchen and toilets. Bedrooms are related to love and relationships. Kitchens suppress good luck; the toilet drains away good luck. To invite constant cash flow and double the income of your home, you may put two Money Frogs on each side of the entrance inside your premises with their heads looking in and not out.

Money Frogs are a must to enhance your “Sheng Chi” direction. “Sheng Chi” refers to auspicious vibrant energy that brings a good start in any undertakings to enhance your personal wealth sector. Following is a chart based on the year you were born in according to The Chinese Solar Calendar, to determine your “Kua Number, the basis of the good directions that can be used to tap auspicious energy into our lives. This is only for the very serious proponent of wealth accumulation!

Kua Number & Sheng Chi Positive Directions
1 South East
2 North East
3 South
4 North

6 West
7 North West
8 South West
9 East

Place your three legged toad in the positive compass direction of your personal space and watch how your own wealth magically increases and your Money Frog brings untold abundance into your life in a way that can only be mystically explained.

How many Money Frogs?
The best number of Money Frogs to have in your living room or garden is nine because it represents bringing in money from all directions of the compass.

Place them randomly and discreetly under your table, behind the sofa, below the coffee table etc.

Ensure that each Money Frog faces a different direction of the compass in the living room and one near your front door hopping inward to bring in lots of wealth and money.

If nine frogs is not possible, three or six are good numbers too.

Mandala

Mandala is defined as a geometric design intended to symbolize the universe . The word itself is derived from the root manda, which means essence, to which the suffix la, meaning container, has been added. Thus, the mandala is a container of essence.

The basic form of most Hindu and Buddhist mandalas is a square with four gates containing a circle with a center point. This dot represents the starting point. It is the gathering center in which the outside energies are drawn, and in the act of drawing the forces, the devotee’s own energies unfold and are also drawn. Thus, it represents the outer and inner spaces. Its purpose is to remove the object-subject dichotomy. In the process, the mandala is consecrated to a deity.

The preparation of a mandala is an artistic endeavor, but at the same time it is an act of worship. In this form of worship, concepts and form are created in which the deepest intuitions are crystallized and expressed as spiritual art. The design, which is usually meditated upon, is a continuum of spatial experiences, the essence of which precedes its existence, which means that the concept precedes the form.

In its creation, a line materializes out of the dot. Other lines are drawn until they intersect, creating triangular geometrical patterns. The circle drawn around the central area stands for the dynamic consciousness of the initiated. It surrounds the square structure that always has four elaborate gates which symbolize the bringing together of the four boundless thoughts – loving kindness, compassion, sympathy, and equanimity. This square form defines the architecture of the mandala described as a four sided palace or temple – a palace because it is the residence of the presiding deity of the mandala, a temple because it contains the essence of the Buddha.

The series of circles surrounding the central palace follow an intense symbolic structure. Beginning with the outer circles, one often finds a ring of fire, frequently depicted as a stylized scrollwork. This symbolizes the process of transformation which ordinary human beings have to undergo before entering the sacred territory within. This is followed by a ring of thunderbolt or diamond scepters indicating the indestructibility and diamond like brilliance of the mandala’s spiritual realms.

Particularly in those mandalas that feature wrathful deities, one finds eight cremation grounds arranged in a wide band. These represent the eight aggregates of human consciousness that tie man to the phenomenal world and to the cycle of birth and rebirth. They include Right Understanding, Right Thought, Right Speech, Right Actions, Right Livelihood, Right Efforts, Right Mindfulness and Right Concentration.

Finally, at the center of the mandala lies the deity, with whom the mandala is identified. It is the power of this deity that the mandala is said to be invested with and whose characteristics the creator of the art form hopes to share. Deities may be “peaceful deities” symbolizing their own particular existential and spiritual approach, i.e. Boddhisattva Avalokiteshvara symbolizing compassion as the central focus of the spiritual experience.

Wrathful deities suggest the mighty struggle involved in overcoming one’s alienation. They embody all the inner afflictions which darken our thoughts, our words, and our deeds that prohibit attainment of the Buddhist goal of full enlightenment. When recognized as aspects of one’s self and tamed by spiritual practice, they assume a benevolent guise and no longer control man.

Sexual imagery may appear in the deity’s area. This phenomenon suggests the integrative process which lies at the heart of the mandala. Male and female elements are nothing but symbols of the countless pairs of opposites – love & hate; good & evil – which one experiences in mundane existence. In this case, sexual imagery can be understood as a metaphor for enlightenment with its qualities of satisfaction, bliss, unity and completion.

If form is crucial to the mandala, so too is color. Each color is associated with one of the five transcendental Buddhas as well as with one of the five afflictions of human nature – confusion, pride, envy, hatred and desire. These delusions obscure our true nature, but through spiritual practice they can be transformed into the wisdom of Buddha. The quadrants of the mandala are typically divided into isosceles triangles of color that include four of the following five:

White – the delusion of confusion that becomes the wisdom of reality
Yellow – the delusion of pride that becomes the wisdom of sameness
Red – the delusion of desire that becomes the wisdom of discernment
Green – the delusion of envy that becomes the wisdom of accomplishment
Blue – the delusion of hatred that becomes the mirror-like wisdom

By their very presence in the world, mandalas remind a viewer of the sanctity in the universe and its potential in each of us. This magical, mystical art form is a means to discover enlightenment and the realization that it resides within one’s own self. There is a saying, “A picture is worth a thousand words.” In terms of mandalas, their worth is infinite!

Smudging

The Chinese, Egyptians, Romans and Native Americans were all known to use Smudge Wands as tools to cleanse their living spaces. The same tools and techniques used by these cultures many years ago remain effective instruments in cleansing our home and work environments today.

Smudge Wands are basically bundles of sage or sage mixed with another herb and tied at one end with string. The user holds the tied off end in their hand while lighting the open end, or wand tip, with a match or lighter. Much like incense, the cleansing properties (smudge) of the sage are released into the air as the wand begins to heat up.

Simple as it may appear, there is a proper way to light a wand and smudge an environment.

1) Place the tip of the wand perpendicular to the ground or floor and light the open end with a lighter. Gently blow on the tip of the sage until it begins to smoke. Continue this process until the wand smokes rather vigorously.

2) Start at the front door of the house and pass the smoking wand over the shape of the door, then start to move directly into the next room following either the ceiling or floor layout. Remember to pass the wand over the shape of each window and door as you continue through each room of the house or work space. In order for the ceremony to be most effective, the Sage Wand should cover every room, door and window. The house will become a bit smoky and it is acceptable to open the doors and windows to let the smoke out.

3) It is wise to carry a plate or large ashtray during the ceremony to catch any hot cinders to avoid damaging the carpets, furniture and floors. An abalone shell serves this purpose and can then be used as a storage place for any half used wand.

This ceremony should be performed whenever you feel you are surrounded by negative or stale energy. These energies may manifest as inconsistent emotional patterns; projects and goals which become delayed or perhaps fall through; continuing restless sleep behavior. After a good smudging, you will notice a calming effect throughout the area being cleansed. In addition, if you are having disturbing dreams, it is recommended that you smudge frequently in the room where the dreams occur.

Solar Eclipse 2017 USA

On Monday, August 21, 2017, all of North America will be treated to an eclipse of the sun. This is one of nature’s most awe inspiring sites. The moon will completely cover the sun and the sun’s Corona. The path will stretch from Salem Oregon to Charleston South Carolina. Observers outside this path will see a partial eclipse where the moon covers part of the sun disk.

According to my friend who recently flew here from Europe, over 2000 eclipse enthusiasts will be hosting parties in local community centers, observatories, and parks and open fields.

This is the first time in US history, that a total solar eclipse that crosses the country from coast to coast will only be visible in America. It has been dubbed “The Great American Eclipse

The moon will completely block the sun, momentarily engulfing parts of about a dozen states in sudden darkness. The skies will darken and the air will get noticeably colder. Experts say it’s a visceral reaction. You feel something in the pit of your stomach, like something is not right. As the totality begins, the hairs may stand up on the back of your neck and arms. This sudden change still throws animals for a loop. Flowers close up like its night fall and birds tend to stop singing.

Oregon is expecting 1 million visitors worldwide to flock to the state to be the first in the country to see the total solar eclipse. Many of the hotels have been fully booked for four years. Oregon state parks and more than 1000 state camping sites have been fully booked as well.

NASA has issued safety warnings and the demand for solar eclipse glasses spikes. Also for those of you who won’t be able to travel, NASA is offering a live feed from NASA’s Marshall space flight Center. This live feed is an alternative for those experiencing less than optimal weather or light polluted skies. If you miss this event, you will have to wait until the next super moon eclipse in 2033.

Gargoyles

Gargoyle statues are meant to protect any dwelling from evil spirits. Gargoyle statues are widely used all over the world for decorative purposes as well as the belief that they repair all negative energy. Many churches, historic buildings, and cemeteries adorn gargoyles. Europe seems to favor them the most.

Within Paganism and Wicca, gargoyle statues are primarily used as a protection for the home and altar. Many Wiccans and Pagans tend to place the statues close to their altars to keep negative influences from contaminating their sacred space.

Originally gargoyle statues were carved by architects and used as water spouts to divert water from the buildings. In Medieval times they were used to ward off evil and act as guardians of the church to keep the terrible spirits of evil away and it was believed they were inspired from a written passage in the Bible.

Some believe they were inspired by the skeletal remains of ancient dinosaurs. Others believe they are representations of the deep rooted elements within human nature in men’s expression of subconscious fears or attempts to define or embody evils of the world into manageable elements.

Whatever their true origins, these awesome visual images have been with men for hundreds of years and they still seem to catch and inspire the imagination of modern society. They do indeed have a spirit of their own.

How to Visit a Vortex

Many people come to Sedona to experience the Vortex energy. Some feel it and some don’t. It all depends on how sensitive you are to the energy. It might take you getting into a relaxed and open frame of mind. Preparing yourself for the visit, may be a good idea to make your visit a memorable experience.

Spiritual preparation for visits to Sacred Places is a matter of personal preference. Devoting time and energy to a sacred place journey does have a payoff. We can actually create the experience we are seeking with a few simple guidelines. Try spending some time alone or with the guide or elder who is familiar with the energy of the particular site.

A shaman or medicine man takes time to prepare the body mind and spirit for ceremonies and journeys to sacred places. The purpose of the spiritual preparation is to amplify and to sustain the vibration of our being. The vibration and frequency we hold is a magnet attracting what we desire, so taking time to clear our energy field is essential. Meditating and fasting will help to clear our energy. Abstinence from alcohol and drugs is a must. The burning of sage and or tobacco can be helpful.

Silence opens us to higher thought and unlimited realms of information. Listening to the silence attunes us to what the stillness has to reveal. Close your eyes to eliminate visual data and distractions. Now concentrate on your inner focus by drawing your attention to the space slightly above and between your eyebrows. Breathe deeply and send out a vibration of love to everything and everyone around you. Move your focus from your head to your heart area. Now listen to the sounds of nature with your entire body. Listening will be cultivated through silence and meditation.

Our bodies are accurate sensing devices. Pay attention to any areas of tingling, stiffness, or chills. These are signals that you are connecting with the energy of the vortex. Ask to be shown and made aware of anything the site or you guardians want to share. Be receptive and stay open to what information is being present through your conscious thought. Opening the hands with the palms facing forward enables us to beam our energy out to the Universe and signals our willingness to receive.

These are just a few suggestions that may help you have a memorable vortex experience. Always leave the vortex with a feeling of gratitude, excitement and expectancy. Be respectful and thank the Universe for your experience and healing. Namaste.
