What are Chinese Dragons?

Dragons Dragons

Dragons are referred to as the divine mythical creature that brings with it ultimate abundance, prosperity and good fortune. But if these mythical entities can bring about real effects, are they not real themselves?

Dragons are deeply rooted in the Chinese culture and unlike the negative associations with Western Dragons, Eastern Dragons are beautiful, friendly and wise. Their origin is unknown, but certainly predates the written history. They look like a combination of many animals. For the Chinese people, Dragons were described visually as a composite of parts from nine animals –the horns of a deer; the head of a camel; the eyes of a hare; the body of a snake; the abdomen of a frog; the scales of a carp; the claws of an eagle; the paws of a tiger; and the ears of an ox. Each part embodies the various powers attributed to Chinese Dragons, but there is an added attraction to the fact that nine animals compose the Dragon.

The number nine is considered lucky in China . Eastern dragons have 117 scales (1+1+7), 81 ( 9 x 9) infused with yang (male energy) and 36 (4 x 9) infused with yin. This evens out the Dragon’s temper and personality.

Dragon Powers

The Dragon is credited with having great powers that allow them to make rain and to control floods. Eastern Dragons are portrayed as good, kind, and intelligent, though vain. They are insulted when people do not honor their importance. Then, by thrashing about, dragons either stop making rain and cause water shortages, or they breathe black clouds that bring storms and floods.

The Dragon brings the essence of life in the form of its celestial breath and yields life and bestows its power in the form of the seasons, bringing water from rain, warmth from the sunshine, wind from the seas and soil from the earth. It is the ultimate representation of the forces of Mother Nature, perhaps the greatest divine force on earth.

In the minds of the early Chinese, the Dragon was a god that embodied the will and ideals of the Chinese people and then carried them off to the celestial realms after death. Oriental Dragons are shown with a pearl in their mouth, under their chin, or in their claws. The pearl is where the Dragon gets its power and the means by which it can ascend to the heavens.

Ancient Dragons

In ancient China nobody had any doubts about the existence of Dragons and they were accorded great respect as the symbol of the Chinese nation. All people in China , including the emperor, prostrated themselves before the image of the Dragon with reverence and awe. As a result, this unreal animal became the spiritual sustenance for a nation: firstly, as the totem of a tribe and then as the symbol of the nation. Eventually it became the sign on the national flag of the last feudal dynasty. In modern times, official dogma decries the importance of the Chinese Dragon, but this does not stop adoration on the part of Chinese around the world in the form of the Dragon Dance celebrating the Chinese New Year, or auspicious placement of decorative Dragon paraphernalia in the living quarters (as in Feng Shui). After all, the Dragon can ward off wandering evil spirits, protect the innocent and bestow safety to all that hold his emblem. It is the ultimate symbol of Good Fortune and that in itself makes it real enough for anyone who believes.

What is Moldavite?

MoldaviteMoldavite – a crystal from outer space

A product of a large cosmic meteorite which vaporized when it struck the earth nearly 15 million years ago, creating the Reis Crater in Nordlingen, Germany. A small percentage of that vapor was catapulted back into the ionosphere by the impact explosion through the hole punched in the earth’s dense atmosphere. When this silica vapor reached the cold of outer space, it condensed and solidified. The dispersed mass descended again on the Earth in the form of molten drops earth creating a strewn field of lime green tektite, several hundred miles away in the Moldau River Valley in the Czech Republic. Thus the name “Moldavite,” a rare crystal of a bottle-green, translucent hue.

People who are able to perceive extra-sensory stimuli from around them are well familiar with the fact that Moldavite irradiates special types of energy. When placing the palm of their hand over Moldavite, they feel pleasant warmth, or mild twitching. After a while this feeling spreads from the palm to the wrist and further on, up to the elbow. Compared with other precious stones, the radiation coming from Moldavite is much more intensive. It is therefore used in alternative medicine as a transformer of energies, because due to its properties, it is able to gain energy from the cosmic space and transfer it to the organism.

One should look at moldavite as a stone which can both help us be comfortable in this physical existence and remind us that our Earth is part of a much larger system of consciousness. It is a stone of communication. It stimulates cooperation and transfer of energies between those of extra-terrestrial origins and those inhabiting earth. It has been suggested that for our Earth to fully heal itself new races of beings are needed, those with what might be described as a more cosmic view of existence. These souls, incarnating for the first time on this planet, and in some cases for the first time in a physical body, need a way to be grounded in the unique energies of this planet, and Moldavite is one of the helpers for this.

When placed on the third eye, Moldavite helps us to establish the cosmic connection. When placed on the heart, it teaches us to appreciate the gift of being here on Earth. Used on the crown chakra, it opens the self to higher spiritual energy. On a more practical level, Moldavite helps to release all that is no longer needed for personal growth: old ideas, leftover emotional habits, whatever you know on a deep level that needs to go. Because its energies are so powerful, it is a good idea to keep the Moldavite close to you when you first get a piece, and to meditate with it regularly. Whenever Moldavite is used in meditation, it is recommended that a grounding stone –black tourmaline, hematite, tiger’s eye, smoky quartz, red jasper or obsidian –be placed by the feet for grounding purposes, to keep you centered.

You will find in time that Moldavite influences you so that more and more things seem to be unnecessary and at the same time you may find it more and more important to be honest with both yourself and others. It is not necessarily so that the stone will enhance your communication with other worldly beings. However, enhanced communication on any level is a good beginning in general. Moldavite is a valuable stone which may open some doors for you to who knows what; maybe, even, an out of this world experience!

Tibetan Prayer Flags

Prayer flags are not just pretty pieces of colored cloth with funny writing on them. The ancient Buddhist prayers, mantras, and powerful symbols displayed on them produce a spiritual vibration that is activated and carried by the wind across the countryside. All beings touched by the wind are uplifted and made a little happier. Prayer flags’ silent prayers are blessings spoken on the breath of nature. Prayers dissolved in the wind extend to fill all of space.

The Tibetan words for prayer flag are dar cho. Dar means to increase life, fortune, health and wealth. Cho means all sentient beings. Prayer flags are simple devices that couple with the natural energy of the wind to quietly harmonize the environment, impartially increasing happiness and good fortune among all living beings.

Prayer Flags create Harmony

Placing prayer flags in and around your home imparts a feeling of harmony, increases the spiritual atmosphere, and brings to mind teachings of enlightenment. By placing these prayer flags outdoors, the flags’ sacred mantras are imprinted on the wind, generating peace and good wishes.

DarCho typically come on ropes that let the flags be hung in horizontal display. The prayer flags are printed on five different cloth colors: yellow, green, red, white and blue, each color corresponding to a different primary element that together form the fundamental building blocks of our physical bodies and our environment. Blue corresponds to space; white to air; red to fire; green corresponds to water and yellow to the earth. Sets always contain flags in multiples of five to correspond to the five Buddha families and the five wisdoms.

According to Eastern medicine, health and harmony are produced through a balance of the five elements. The ancients believed properly arranging colored flags around a sick patient harmonized the elements in the patient’s body, helping to produce a state of physical and mental health. Colored flags also were used to appease the gods and spirits of the local mountains, valleys, lakes and streams. These elemental beings were thought to cause natural disasters and disease when provoked. Balancing the outer elements and propitiating the elemental spirits with rituals and offerings was the pre-Tibetan Buddhist way of pacifying nature and invoking the blessings of the gods. Theirs was an oral tradition using representations as invocations. During the first millennium, Buddhism gradually assimilated into the Tibetan way of life. It flourished by encompassing the popular ideology and building upon it. Thus, in addition to the early symbols and designs, Tibetan prayer flags also include script modeled on ancient Sanskrit. Texts on prayer flags can be categorized as mantras, sutras and prayers.

A mantra is a power laden syllable or series of syllables –sounds with the capacity to influence certain energy dimensions. The vibration of mantras can control the invisible energies and occult forces that govern existence. Mantras almost always are in Sanskrit, the ancient language of Hinduism and Buddhism. Mantras range in length from a single syllable such as “om” to long mantras containing tens of syllables.

Sutras are prose texts based on the discourses directly derived from the historical Buddha who taught in India 2500 years ago. All the other text on prayer flags falls under the general term “prayers” including supplications, aspirations and good wishes written by various Buddhist masters.

Sacred Prayer Flags

Tibetan tradition considers prayer flags to be holy. Because they contain sacred texts and symbols, the flags should be treated respectfully. They should not be placed on the ground or put in the trash. The traditional way of disposing of prayer flags is to burn them, so the smoke may carry their blessings to the heavens. Or they may simply be left to disintegrate and become one with the wind. Either way, there is no simpler way to create good merit in this troubled world than to put up prayer flags for the benefit of all other living beings.

What are Tibetan bowls?

tibetan bowlsMany cultures and religions revere sound so deeply as to believe it called the universe into being. For the Hindus, all was dark and quiet in the universe until the first movement in the universe created the sound “Aum.” It is the mother tone, containing the frequencies of all other sounds.

Everything that moves vibrates, from the smallest molecule to the universe itself. As long as it is vibrating, it is making some kind of sound. We may not perceive the sound, as it may be below or above the threshold of our hearing. However, sounds are also recognized by skin and bone conduction; thus, the entire body may be considered a hearing device. Scientific studies show that sound can produce changes in the autonomic, immune, and endocrine systems. Every atom, molecule, cell, gland and organ of the human body absorbs and emits sound. The entire body, as well as our brain waves in a relaxed state, vibrates at a fundamental frequency of about 8 cycles per second, literally attuning us to the basic electromagnetic field of the earth itself.

As the universe is composed of spinning wheels of energy, we too, at the inner core, spin seven wheel like energy centers called Chakras. They are measurable patterns of electromagnetic activity, centers for the reception, assimilation and transmission of life energies. Each Chakra reflects essential aspects of consciousness, forming the master programs that govern our lives, loves, learning and illumination. Chakras can be open, closed or any of the various stages in between. These states may be basic aspects of someone’s personality throughout most of their life, or something that changes from moment to moment, in response to a situation. An ailing Chakra maybe unable to change its state easily, being “stuck ” in either an open or a closed state. If this is the state, the Chakra needs healing, by uncovering and removing whatever is blocking it. The seven major Chakras are all inseparably interrelated. A block in the functioning of one Chakra may affect the activity of the one above or below it causing the body to be operating in a state of disharmony.

Our bodies are genetically pre-programmed to be self-healing instruments. Certain sounds heal by assisting the body to come into its natural state of balance and harmony. When an organ or body part is healthy, it creates a natural resonant frequency in harmony with the rest of the body. Each of the energy centers is associated with a specific tone of the C major musical scale from “C” of the Root Chakra, progressing upward to the 7th or Crown Chakra and the corresponding 7th note of the scale, “B.”

When the vibration of a part of the body is out of harmony, we have dis-ease. With dis-ease, a different sound pattern is established in the affected part of the body. The sound pattern is not a pure tone. When the correct pitch is projected into the dis-eased area, correct harmonic patterns are restored. This is sound healing.

There are many methods of healing with sound. Mantras and chants have been used for thousands of years considering that the human voice is a most powerful musical instrument. Other instruments are also used to effect changes in the body by breaking up these blockages. An instrument vibrating in concert with one of the notes of the scale, can cause the associated Chakra to open. Crystal bowls particularly, are of great use in sound healing. They are composed almost exclusively of silicon quartz to which the body has a natural affinity. Our bodies and those substances which compose the brain are crystalline in structure. Even on a molecular level, our cells contain silica, which balances our electro-magnetic energies. This is the same formula as natural quartz crystal. Quartz crystal sound or music, holds the vibration which acts directly on our Chakras’ physical centers. In addition, it has the power to bring about a positive shift in our consciousness. As our awareness expands, we grow close to our original selves and start to reflect the highest radiance in our physical form. Through these crystal healing sounds, one can re-pattern the energy field organization that ultimately affects the cellular expression of disease or wellness.

The power of thought is the means by which we create our reality. Nothing can be created if it has not first been thought. Crystal amplifies the thought programmed within. Thus it can be used to bring out a special quality or feeling in people and simultaneously release and replace thought forms that are not of the highest radiance for the listener. The crystal bowl’s sound “heals” our thoughts so that we can heal our physical selves. At the same time, the sounds emitted work directly on bodily imbalances in order to rid the body of dis-ease and restore a healthy state of being.

Here at the Center, we have a full line of Crystal Bowls tuned to each of the 7 Chakras, Tibetan Bowls, tingshas from Nepal and many Music CD’s to help you in “BALANCING” your being and chakras for an ultimate health and well-being experience.

What is Aromatherapy?

AromatherapyThe art of aromatherapy has been developed and refined for centuries. Once banned as sorcery, the power of aroma awakens our instincts and subconscious responses. Of our five human senses, our sense of smell is the one sense that most triggers memory. Therefore, it is not unreasonable to note the effect of smell on the unconscious mind.

Essential oils are fatty solubles, capable of penetrating cell walls, even if particular cell walls have hardened due to oxygen deficiency. These oils can affect every cell of the body within twenty minutes and are metabolized like other nutrients. They are powerful antioxidants that create an unfriendly environment for damaging free radicals. Essential oils prevent all mutations; work as free radical scavengers; prevent fungus; and prevent oxidation in the cells.

Essential oils are incredibly health promoting. They are anti-bacterial, anti- fungal, anti-infectious, anti-microbial, anti-tumoral, anti-parasitic, anti-viral and antiseptic. They have been shown to destroy all tested bacteria and viruses while simultaneously restoring physiological balance to the body. Essential oils, therefore, have the ability to detoxify cells and blood in the human body and promote healing.

Essential oils are aromatic and when diffused, provide purification in a number of ways. They remove metallic particles and toxins from the air thereby increasing atmospheric oxygen. They increase ozone and negative ions in the immediate area which inhibits bacterial growth. They eliminate odors from mold, cigarettes and animals, filling the air with a fresh, aromatic scent. This scent promotes emotional, physical and spiritual well being. Aromatherapy uses the powerful properties of essential oils to balance and enhance one’s mood.

How does this work? Since our sense of smell is so much more sensitive than our other senses, the invisible world of scent surrounds us with powerful influences. Unlike synthetic fragrances, pure essential oils are natural compounds derived from plants. Their biochemical composition stimulates our brains, affecting mood and well being. Since essential oils have a bio-electrical frequency several times greater than the frequency of herbs, food and even the human body, research has shown essential oils can quickly raise the frequency of the human body, restoring it to its normal, healthy level. Aromatherapy can be used to recharge, rejuvenate, relax and soothe one’s whole being. However, the use of essential oils – aromatherapy – is not without precautions. Due to their ability to penetrate cell walls, essential oils should not be used by pregnant women, people with high blood pressure and those with a history of epilepsy. Never ingest essential oils and do not use undiluted oils on your skin.

Various oils, either by themselves or in combination with other essential oils, can be used to achieve a distinct result. Try sweet orange in a lamp ring in the afternoon for a refreshing pick-me-up. Use geranium essential oil to balance the mind, body and spirit. If you need to clear your head during stressful moments of the day, a combination of peppermint, spearmint, lavender and lemon essential oils will provide a quick fix. And after the emotional stress of the day, a few drops of lavender added to a diffuser at bedtime, will help you sleep soundly and peacefully.
