It is said if you give your lover moonstone jewelry when the moon is full, you will always have passion with each other so you might want to check our weekly astrology to determine when the Moon is full each month.
The name “Moonstone” was coined by the ancient Greeks to describe gemstones that display the moon’s ethereal silvery light. The mysterious shimmer that always looks different when the stone is moved is known in the trade as adularescence or schiller, best described as a milky bluish luster or glow originating from below the surface of the gemstone. Light rays are refracted and scattered in the stone. In this way, a unique light effect comes about giving the impression of lunar light floating on water which makes the moonstone so distinctive and so desirable.
There are two types of moonstones. Adularia moonstone is an almost transparent pale gray or silvery white or blue shimmer gemstone. Albite moonstone is semitransparent with a pale, shimmering reflection. It matters not which type of moonstone you choose. Either one has the same properties as the other. Each is a very personal stone as it is a reflection of the person who owns it. The moonstone symbolizes our being in its entirety. It does not add or detract, only shows how it is. With its soft shimmer, it strengthens our emotional and subconscious aspects. It can be worn as an amulet to bring good emotions to the wearer, protects those of a sensitive nature and it can reunite lovers who have quarreled.
This gemstone is surrounded by a good deal of mystique and magic. The ancient Greeks valued the moonstone as a talisman for lovers evoking tender feelings and safeguarding the true joys of love. It is also said that wearing a moonstone strengthens our intuition and our capacity to understand. It was believed that wearing the stone conveyed knowledge of future events and could guide a person in making important decisions. In India today, it is considered a holy, magical gemstone. It is regarded as a “dream stone” that brings the wearer beautiful visions at night. To wear moonstones is to “dream” one’s future. In the Far East, moonstones are thought to balance yin and yang and promote greater flexibility and flow with life. In Arabic countries, women often wear moonstones sewn out of sight into their garments, for in their culture, the moonstone is a symbol of fertility.
Moonstone is used by healers to stimulate the functioning of the pineal gland and balance internal hormone cycles with nature’s rhythms. It is a stone of inner growth and strength. Though often considered to be a woman’s stone, it can be beneficial to men in opening the emotional self.
The silver-white luster of a glorious moon, the soft, mesmerizing sheen, the subtle and soothing colors –all can be available with a moonstone, meant to be worn and admired and moved about. Only then can the soft shimmer of light that makes this gemstone so desirable really come into its own replicating for all of us the “gentle ruler of the night sky.”
