Clover, Cauldrons & the Queen of the Underworld | Samhain
Whoa, Nelly! October has been quite a ride, and the heavens have saved a few tricks and treats for Halloween week. Venus is backing out of Scorpio’s underworld, Mercury is retracing his steps through the crime scene, and Jupiter is two-stepping toward the South Node in Leo. Meanwhile, a Taurus Full Moon arrives with a lovely little message about appreciating what’s right in front of us.
Sunday Venus retrogrades into Libra, her own sign, after weeks of stirring up questions about love, intimacy, desire, and the things we sometimes do to keep another person close. Have you been giving more than you’re receiving? Holding on to a relationship because of its history? Or discovering that something you once wanted has lost its appeal? Venus in Libra brings these questions back to the negotiating table. An old love may resurface, or a conversation you’ve been avoiding could finally take place.
That same evening, the Full Moon at 2°45′ Taurus opposes the Sun in Scorpio. Taurus concerns what we own, earn, and need to feel secure. Scorpio concerns what we share, owe, inherit, and risk when we allow someone into our private world. This Full Moon could illuminate anything from a household budget to an intimate relationship. Who pays for what? Who does the emotional heavy lifting? And how much of our happiness have we placed in somebody else’s hands?
The Sabian Symbol for this Full Moon is “Steps up to a lawn blooming with clover.” Isn’t that a beautiful image after all this Scorpio excavation? Clover is a humble little plant, but it feeds the bees, enriches the soil, and has long been associated with good fortune. You could walk right past a patch of it without appreciating what a treasure it is.
I wonder how often we do the same thing with our own lives. We worry about what we lack while overlooking the people who show up, the bills we’ve managed to pay, the meal on the table, or the simple pleasure of sitting outside on a beautiful autumn afternoon. Mama Luna in Taurus invites us to notice what has been growing while we’ve been busy digging around in the dark.
Monday the Sun in Scorpio squares Pluto in Aquarius, and things could get a little testy. Scorpio wants to know what’s really going on, while Pluto has a way of exposing the power struggles nobody wants to admit are happening. Think about the family member who uses money to influence decisions, the friend who expects loyalty but rarely returns it, or the person who insists everything is fine while quietly keeping score. With Mercury retrograde in Scorpio, an old conversation or piece of information may return with a rather different meaning.
By Thursday, another Mystic Rectangle is forming in the heavens. This fascinating pattern connects two oppositions through a series of harmonious aspects, giving us opportunities to work with situations that have become uncomfortable or complicated.
Venus retrograde in Libra opposes Chiron in Aries, stirring an old question about love and independence. How much do we compromise to keep the peace? How do we ask for what we need without making the other person wrong? You might recognize this in a marriage where one person always makes the plans, a friendship where you’re usually the one calling, or a family relationship where everybody expects you to play the same old role.
Meanwhile, Jupiter travels with the South Node in Leo, opposite the North Node in Aquarius. Leo loves to be seen and appreciated, and heaven knows there’s nothing wrong with that! But Jupiter can make our pride a little larger than life. Maybe you’ve been waiting for someone to acknowledge everything you’ve done. Maybe you’ve been so invested in having your contribution recognized that you’ve missed what others are bringing to the table. Aquarius asks us to consider how our individual gifts contribute to the larger community.
Here’s what I find so interesting about this Mystic Rectangle. The trines and sextiles connect these separate concerns, suggesting that progress in one relationship or situation can help us approach another differently. An honest conversation with a partner might free up time for a creative project. Letting go of an old resentment could make it easier to enjoy a family gathering. And giving someone else a little room to shine may do wonders for a friendship.
Friday retrograde Mercury in Scorpio squares Mars in Leo. Oh, that wormy little jaw of Mercury’s is at it again! Mercury remembers what was said, what was promised, and exactly who failed to follow through. Mars in Leo has considerable pride invested in his version of events. An old disagreement could flare over something as ordinary as an unpaid bill, a forgotten invitation, or a remark made at the dinner table. Before delivering that perfectly sharpened comeback, consider whether you want to spend the weekend cleaning up the mess.
And then comes Saturday, October 31. Samhain. All Hallows’ Eve.
The waning Moon spends much of Halloween in Cancer, the sign of home, family, and memory. How appropriate for a night traditionally devoted to honoring those who have gone before us. You might find yourself looking through old photographs, preparing a family recipe, or remembering someone whose absence is still felt around the dinner table. As evening deepens in Arizona, Mama Luna enters Leo, bringing warmth, creativity, and a desire to celebrate the lives and stories we’ve inherited.
Ancient Samhain marked the end of the harvest and the beginning of the darker half of the year, when the boundary between the living and the dead was traditionally believed to grow thin. With Venus and Mercury both retrograde, it’s been quite a month for old loves, unfinished conversations, family memories, and skeletons climbing out of closets.
And after all that rummaging around in the underworld, I keep coming back to the Full Moon’s little patch of clover.
Maybe there’s something wonderfully fitting about finding ourselves back in the garden, appreciating the people who love us, the comforts we’ve worked to create, and the small blessings that have been growing quietly all along.
Happy Samhain, my fellow travelers beneath this ensouled cosmos.

Aries, Sunday’s Taurus Full Moon shines a big, beautiful light on your second house of money, possessions, and personal security. Its Sabian Symbol, “Steps up to a lawn blooming with clover,” suggests there’s more abundance in your life than you’ve been giving yourself credit for. You might finally pay off a nagging bill, realize you’ve saved more than you thought, or discover that something you already own is exactly what you need. With the Sun opposite in Scorpio and your eighth house of shared finances, money involving a spouse, business partner, or family member could also come up for discussion. Who’s paying for what? And is the arrangement still fair?
Sunday Venus retrogrades back into Libra and your seventh house of marriage and partnership. An old relationship issue may return, especially if you’ve been doing most of the compromising. Monday’s Sun-Pluto square could add a friend or group obligation to the mix. By Thursday, a Mystic Rectangle connects Venus in your partnership house with Chiron in Aries, while Jupiter and the South Node in Leo occupy your fifth house of romance, children, and creativity, opposite the North Node in Aquarius and your eleventh house of friendship. The helpful trines and sextiles suggest that a little honest communication could open the door to more pleasure without leaving anyone feeling neglected.
Friday Mercury retrograde in Scorpio squares your ruler Mars in Leo. A disagreement over shared expenses, a child’s needs, or a romantic expectation could heat up quickly. Capricorn, you’ve been working hard, and this week’s Taurus Full Moon arrives in your fifth house of pleasure, romance, children, and creativity with a rather pointed question: When was the last time you did something simply because you enjoyed it? The Sabian Symbol, “Steps up to a lawn blooming with clover,” describes abundance that has been growing quietly all along. A child may bring you unexpected joy, someone could express romantic interest, or a creative project you set aside may suddenly look inviting again. With the Sun in Scorpio and your eleventh house of friendship, this is also a lovely opportunity to spend time with people who make you laugh.
Sunday Venus retrogrades back into Libra and your tenth house of career and reputation. An old professional contact could reappear, or you may reconsider a position, client, or project that once seemed appealing. Monday’s Sun-Pluto square raises questions about money and the commitments you’ve made to friends or organizations. Before agreeing to another contribution or taking on somebody else’s responsibilities, have a look at what you’re already carrying.
By Thursday, the Mystic Rectangle connects Venus in your career house with Chiron in your fourth house of home and family, while Jupiter and the South Node in your eighth house face the North Node in your second. You may find yourself negotiating between professional demands, household needs, and shared finances. An opportunity at work could require more time away from home, or a family expense may influence a career decision. The helpful trines and sextiles suggest there’s room for a workable arrangement, especially if everybody is willing to discuss the practical details.
Friday Mercury retrograde squares Mars across your friendship and shared-finances houses. This could bring an awkward conversation about money owed, a group expense, or an agreement that was never entirely clear. Keep the discussion factual, especially if someone becomes defensive. As the Moon enters Leo on Halloween, your eighth house of ancestry and inheritance is illuminated. Samhain offers a beautiful occasion to honor the people whose hard work, sacrifices, and love helped make your life possible. You might even discover an old family photograph that deserves a proper place in your home.
IRL Tip:
Before accepting another professional or financial obligation, check your calendar and bank balance. Give yourself permission to enjoy some of what you’ve worked so hard to build.
Self-Care Theme:
Making pleasure part of a well-lived life.
Kind Deed:
Encourage someone who has put a creative dream aside because of work or family responsibilities. Offer to help them find a little time for it.

Aquarius (January 20-February 18) Weekly Horoscope: for Aquarius & Aquarius Rising
Your IRL Week:
Aquarius, Sunday’s Taurus Full Moon illuminates your fourth house of home and family, and you may suddenly notice something about your living situation that deserves attention. Perhaps the house has become cluttered, a family member needs more of your time, or you’ve been so busy tending to the outside world that home has become little more than a place to sleep. The Sabian Symbol, “Steps up to a lawn blooming with clover,” is a lovely invitation to appreciate the comforts you’ve created. A simple evening at home may be surprisingly satisfying.
Venus retrogrades into Libra and your ninth house on Sunday, reviving an interest in travel, education, writing, or a place you’ve wanted to visit. An old invitation might resurface, or you could hear from someone you met while traveling. Monday the Sun in your tenth house of career squares Pluto in Aquarius, bringing a professional matter into sharp focus. Someone may expect you to continue playing a role you’ve outgrown. You may be ready to approach your work differently, even if the people around you haven’t quite caught up.
Thursday’s Mystic Rectangle connects Venus in your ninth house with Chiron in your third, while Jupiter and the South Node in Leo occupy your seventh house of partnership opposite the North Node in Aquarius. A partner may have strong ideas about a trip, major decision, or future plan, while you have your own vision of how things should unfold. An old disagreement about whose preferences take priority could return. This configuration offers an opportunity to listen to one another and find an arrangement that leaves both people with something to look forward to.
Friday Mercury retrograde in your career house squares Mars in your partnership house. A spouse, business partner, or colleague could take issue with a professional decision, particularly if it affects their schedule or responsibilities. You may discover that a conversation you thought was settled needs another round. Halloween brings the Moon into Leo and your seventh house, making Samhain a lovely occasion to spend time with someone close. Ask about their family traditions or share a story about an ancestor who shaped your life. You might learn something wonderful about one another.
IRL Tip:
Revisit a trip or learning opportunity you’ve been considering, and talk through the practical arrangements with anyone affected by your plans.
Self-Care Theme:
Creating a home life that supports the person you’re becoming.
Kind Deed:
Invite someone to share a meaningful family story or tradition. Give them the pleasure of being heard.

Pisces (February 19-March 20) Weekly Horoscope: for Pisces & Pisces Rising
Your IRL Week:
Pisces, the Taurus Full Moon arrives Sunday in your third house of communication, neighbors, siblings, and everyday life. The Sabian Symbol, “Steps up to a lawn blooming with clover,” suggests that something valuable may be right under your nose. A neighbor could offer useful advice, a sibling may have news, or an ordinary conversation could provide the answer to something you’ve been puzzling over. With the Sun opposite in Scorpio and your ninth house, you may be so occupied with the big questions of life that you’ve overlooked something simple and practical.
Venus retrogrades into Libra and your eighth house of shared money and intimacy on Sunday. An old financial matter may need attention, particularly if it involves a partner, loan, insurance policy, or family agreement. Monday’s Sun-Pluto square could also stir a private concern about something you’ve believed for years. A book, conversation, or piece of information may cause you to reconsider an opinion that once seemed settled.
By Thursday, the Mystic Rectangle connects Venus in your eighth house with Chiron in your second house of personal money and self-worth. Meanwhile, Jupiter and the South Node in Leo occupy your sixth house of work and daily responsibilities, opposite the North Node in Aquarius and your twelfth house of rest and spiritual life. This could be as ordinary as realizing you’re paying for more than your share of household expenses, or that you’ve been volunteering for extra work while your own needs wait patiently at the back of the line. Jupiter can make you wonderfully generous with your time, but the South Node may expose an old habit of saying yes before checking whether you have the energy.
Friday Mercury retrograde in Scorpio squares Mars in Leo across your ninth and sixth houses. A scheduling mistake, travel arrangement, or disagreement at work could test your patience. Double-check appointments and instructions, especially if you’re juggling several responsibilities. Halloween finds the Moon moving from Cancer and your fifth house of creativity into Leo and your sixth house of everyday rituals. Samhain may be especially meaningful through a simple act of remembrance. Prepare a dish someone you loved used to make, light a candle, or write down a family story while you can still remember the details.
IRL Tip:
Sit down with the bills, shared expenses, or household schedule. One honest conversation could resolve a problem that’s been quietly irritating you.
Self-Care Theme:
Making your generosity sustainable.
Kind Deed:
Help someone with a practical errand they’ve been struggling to complete, especially an older relative or neighbor.
