Somebody please stop me, I'm channeling my mother.

Funny but true. Although we are becoming more and more enlightened, things were probably different for us than they are now. Not all of us were raised by enlightened parents. Even if our parents when to church, the were bombarded by guilt, fire and brimstone.

I remember when I first sought psychological counseling. They said my mother and grandmother taught me victim consciousness. Are you kidding me? My parents were perfect, weren’t they? Well they were but they only could teach what they had been taught. And what they were taught was bad stuff happens to good people and it’s always someone else’s fault. Then there was all that money doesn’t grow on trees stuff. And if your bad you will be punished.

Let’s talk about self esteem. Every single time I would delightfully show off a new dress I just bought, my grandmother would ask,”Did they have it in a bigger size or did they have it in another color.” Just a little subtle zing-bot. But we get used to it and attract friends and relationships to do the same thing to us.

I always thought I had a good voice and use to sing a lot. Then I met a man who told me my singing was obnoxious..I never made a peep after that. Come to find out, it was his hearing and not my voice.

Recently a friend of mine went back east to visit a parent who was ill. When I asked how her grandmother was,she said ” as feisty as ever.” When I asked what that meant she said, “Oh you know, judgmental, critical and bossy. Funny, I thought to myself, that’s sounds just like my friend

There comes a time in your life when you walk away from all the drama and the people who create it. You surround yourself with people who make you laugh.. Forget the bad and focus on the good. Love people who treat you well, pray for the ones who don’t. Life is too precious to be anything but happy. Stuff happens. Don’t sweat the small stuff. The good news is it’s all small stuff..Allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, and love.The only person’s whose standards you should ever have to live up to is yours.
