The Art of Smudging

If you grew up religious as I did you probably have witnessed the use of smoke in ceremony. For me it was frankincense and myrrh being burned during Sunday mass. For Buddhists it’s burning incense.
Pagan rituals use a lot of candle flame.
Native American traditions the common process of smoke purification is called smudging. It is often done before a ceremony or after an argument to literally clear the air.
A good Feng shui practice is to smudge when moving into a new home.
At the Center for the New Age we will smudge to clear a person’s aura field. We will also use it to clear a space that might have stagnant energy or an unwanted entity.
We usually burn a stick of white sage over a large shell and fan to smoke with an eagle feather. There is something about the smoke that cleanses impurities both seen and unseen
We also feel it connects us to higher spiritual realms.
