Merkaba

Metatrons_cube“Merkaba” refers to an amazing light body energy field extending around the body created using a special sequence of coordinated breaths and visualizations. The physical representation of this phenomenon is a star tetrahedron consisting of two interpenetrating three-sided pyramids that form a three-dimensional Star of David. It activates the protective love of the universe while linking the mind, heart, and body.

The word “Mercaba” is made up of three smaller words – Mer, Ka and Ba that derive from ancient Egyptian texts. It is generally pronounced as if the three words were separate with somewhat equal accents on each syllable. “Mer” refers to a specific kind of light – two counter-rotating fields of light spinning in the same space. “Ka” refers to the individual spirit’s interpretation of its particular reality and “Ba” as the body or physical reality. So, the Merkaba is a counter-rotating field of light that affects spirit and body simultaneously, and has the ability to transport the participant from one dimension to another. Sensational? For sure. New Age gone haywire? You judge for yourself.

The Merkaba story starts with a person called Drunvalo Melchizedek who “walked” into his adult physical body in 1972 and who “retains full memory through different lifetimes and dimensions of consciousness.” It is he who is the person primarily responsible for bringing back knowledge of the Merkaba to human consciousness. With only 17 simple breaths combined with visualization, one can utilize the Merkaba breath meditation to take off for any dimension, constellation, past life, planet you like.

And so you won’t be taken by surprise, here’s a bit of insight to the whole process. The Merkaba – a massive geometrical figure all around the meditating practitioner – is comprised of two tetrahedrons interlocked within a sphere of pranic energy that is connected to a pranic tube running right through you. (Air surrounding each of us is filled with oxygen, hydrogen, carbon-dioxide and all the trace elements, but there is something else besides the air. The Hindus call this “prana,” the life-force energy itself.) That’s not all! On the 16th exhalation, a disc, 55 feet in diameter, flips open from the middle of the body and the sphere of energy that is centered about the two sets of tetrahedrons, forms with the disc, “A shape that looks like a flying saucer around the body. This energy matrix is the Merkaba.”

By the 17th breath, this mammoth complexity is rotating around the practitioner close to the speed of light with the upper, male tetrahedron moving counter-clockwise and the lower, female, moving clockwise.

Want to try it yourself? Begin by creating a place in your home that is used only for this meditation. Make a space where no one will walk through or disturb you. A small altar with a candle and a cushion or pillow to sit upon may be helpful. Make this place holy. It is here that you will learn to create the Merkaba around your body and make conscious contact with your higher self.

To begin the meditation, first sit down and relax. Let the worries of the day go. Breathe rhythmically and shallow. Be aware of your breath and relax. When you feel the tension begin to fade, begin to open your heart. Feel love. Feel love for all life everywhere. Continue to breathe rhythmically, being aware of your breath, and feel the love moving through your spirit. When the feeling of love is in your beingness, you are ready to begin to move towards the experience of the Merkaba. Without this love, there will be no Merkaba. To the degree you are able to love, will be the degree you will be able to experience the Merkaba. Here’s the technique.

Breath 1: Inhale. Become aware of the male tetrahedron filled with white light surrounding your body. Touch your thumb to the index finger. Do not allow the rest of your fingers to touch each other or any other object. Keep palms facing up. Breathe rhythmically. Exhale becoming aware of the female tetrahedron also filled with white light. Keep the same hand position. Exhale slowly. Relax chest and abdomen and hold your breath. When you feel the pressure to breathe again, be aware of the flat equilateral triangle plane at the top of the female tetrahedron. In a flash, send that plane down through the tetrahedron, pushing out all the negative energy. While visualizing this, slightly cross your eyes but keep them closed. Roll your eyeballs to the top of their sockets. Look down at the same time that you send the triangular plane downward.

The next five breaths are a repeat of the first breath with the following mudra changes (mudra refers to the hand position).

Breath 2: Thumb and second finger together.

Breath 3: Thumb and third finger together.

Breath 4: Thumb and little finger together.

Breath 5: Thumb and first finger together.

Breath 6: Thumb and second finger together.

For the next seven breaths, touch thumb with first and second fingers, palms up. Visualize the pranic tube that runs from the apex of the male tetrahedron above you head to the apex of the female tetrahedron below your feet. The diameter of your tube will be the size of the hold formed by your thumb and forefinger.

Breath 7: The instant you inhale, see the prana’s brilliant light move down the tube from the top and up from the bottom at the same time. Direct the two beams to meet within your body at navel level, inside the tube. Here, they form a sphere of white light or prana. As you continue to inhale, this sphere begins to concentrate and grow. By the time you exhale, it will be eight or nine inches in diameter.

Breath 8, 9 & 10: The prana sphere continues to concentrate energy and grow in size. It will reach the size of a basketball at the end of the 8th breath and will brighten further when you finish the 9th breath. On the tenth inhalation, the sphere ignites into a blinding ball of white light. When you now exhale through your lips and with pressure, the sphere bursts out and encloses your body.

Breath 11, 12 & 13: Feel the prana flowing from the two poles, meeting at the navel, and expanding out to the large sphere.

Breath 14: Move the prana sphere from the navel to the sternum, the fourth dimensional chakra. Simultaneously, the entire large sphere moves up to the new meeting point within the tube. Breathing from this new point within the tube will change your awareness to fourth dimensional consciousness. Place the left palm on top of the right palm (for males) or the right palm on top of the left (for females).

Breath 15: Say to yourself: “Equal speed.” Exhale in the manner of the tenth breath and visualize the two whole star tetrahedrons spin in opposite directions at equal speed. You have started the motor of the Merkaba.

Breath 16: While inhaling, say to yourself: “Thirty-four, twenty-one.” The two sets of tetrahedrons will start spinning at a ratio of 34:21. As you feel the speed increasing, let out all your breath with force. The tetrahedrons are now spinning at 2/3 the speed of light. As they approach this speed, a disc, about 55 feet in diameter, forms around the body at the level of the base of the spine. The sphere of energy centered around the tetrahedrons forms, with the disc, a shape that looks like a flying saucer. This energy matrix is your Merkaba.

Breath 17: As you breathe in, say to yourself “Nine-tenths the speed of light” increasing the speed of the Merkaba accordingly. This will stabilize the rotating field of energy. As you feel the speed, exhale forcefully. You are now in your stable and third-dimensionally tuned Merkaba.

Remember. Before practicing the Merkaba, it is essential to open one’s heart to the world, and feel unconditional love. This is because the opening of the heart helps shift one’s level of thought from the physical to the emotional. As Drunvalo himself put it, “Usage of the Merkaba is a sign of our spiritual development and an aspect of the magical, mystical world we can all live in.”
